The other day, we visited the Kyushu Historical Museum!
We started the day with excitement, gathering at a station near our school in the morning. From there, we took a train together, chatting and enjoying the journey.
Once we arrived at the station closest to the museum, we walked the rest of the way. The walk was full of energy as we talked with friends and imagined what fun experiences lay ahead. Along the way, we admired the beautiful autumn leaves, spotted colorful trees, and wondered aloud about interesting buildings we passed. It was a truly delightful stroll.
When we arrived at the museum, the staff welcomed us with warm smiles. They began with an engaging explanation, including a quiz about the museum’s history and exhibits. We had fun brainstorming answers together, making us even more eager to start exploring.
After the introduction, we split into groups and participated in three activities:
1. Exploring the Exhibit Halls
The exhibit halls were filled with fascinating artifacts from Kyushu history. We were captivated by the precious items on display, from ancient tools to decorative objects. It sparked lively conversations about how people in the past might have used these items.
2. The Backstage Tour
We were given a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes at the museum! The staff explained how they carefully preserve and restore valuable artifacts. It was thrilling to witness the work that goes into safeguarding history, giving us a new appreciation for the museum’s efforts.
3. Hands-On Activities
Finally, we participated in hands-on activities. We tackled a pottery puzzle, tried on traditional Japanese kimono costume, and took photos in them! The pottery puzzle was surprisingly challenging, though designed to fit together in the end. We couldn’t help but marvel at how difficult it must be for the museum staff to restore genuine fragments found in the ground. They told us it can sometimes take an entire day without finding even a single matching piece!
For the kimono experience, the museum prepared both real outfits to try on and a virtual dressing experience, which made it extra fun for everyone.
At the end of the day, we thanked the museum staff for their hospitality and took a group photo to commemorate the visit. On the way back to school, we reflected on the fun we had and excitedly discussed where we might like to visit next.
This visit gave us so many new insights into Japanese history and left us with wonderful memories shared with friends and teachers. We hope to visit again in the future!
