Student's Interview

Did NILS help you improve your Japanese proficiency?

Kai

Yes! I was able to gain better usage of vocabulary words, and learn a lot of kanji. I already had a good basis of understanding Japanese prior to NILS, but I did gain a lot more confidence in speaking while studying here.

Interviewer

How helpful was the staff after you started the program?

Kai

I had a lot of issues in regards to my residence card not being filled out correctly, and the staff was very helpful in getting it fixed. When I was searching for a part time job, they recommended a few places as well.

How would you rate your teacher?

Kai

I think the teachers are very energetic and knowledgeable about how to teach Japanese to foreigners. Any time I’m confused about a certain grammar, they are able to explain in different ways so that I’m able to understand.

How about NILS school activity?

Kai

I came in the fall, so I only heard about the activities the school has through my classmates initially, but being able to go to the amusement park in Kumamoto was very fun. Even if the events don’t work out as intended, like weather conditions aren’t favourable, they do find a way to make it up to the students to still have fun and be engaged.

How do you like Fukuoka?

Kai

I love it here! I’m from an island in the Caribbean, and the scenery here reminds me of home a lot. Fukuoka doesn’t experience a lot of natural disasters, and it has its own unique beauty, right down to the food.
