Two Weeks After Graduation

The two weeks between graduation and entrance ceremonies—a crucial preparation period for a new beginning

After graduation, students immediately begin moving towards the “next stage.” These approximately two weeks are a special time filled with excitement amidst the busyness. Let’s take a peek at what these students are up to this year.

Savoring the Afterglow of Graduation

Even after the ceremony ends, the sense of accomplishment and emotion lingers for some time.

Taking photos with friends and reflecting on past efforts are important milestones in life.

Preparing for a New Life Begins in Earnest.

If attending a distant school, the search for accommodation and moving arrangements accelerate rapidly. While there are many unfamiliar things, such as furnishing and purchasing household items, and dealing with administrative procedures, it’s also a time of great excitement as you shape your new life.

Also, when moving out of a rental property, there is an obligation to return it to its original condition, so it’s wise to check the room usage rules and move-out costs early on.

Furthermore, if you move within or outside the city, you will need to complete transfer-in and transfer-out procedures at the local government office. These must be done within a limited timeframe before and after the move, so it’s important to prepare well in advance.

In addition, filing a change of address (forwarding request) at the post office will ensure that mail sent to your old address is forwarded to your new address for one year, preventing you from missing important documents. Furthermore, if you plan to live in your new location for more than a year, filing another change of address procedure one year after your initial change will ensure that mail continues to be delivered to the same address thereafter.

Deepening time with family and friends

Many students cherish time with loved ones before embarking on a new journey to a new environment.

In particular, conversations with friends you will soon be living far away will create unforgettable memories.

Enrollment procedures and orientation

Some schools hold enrollment procedures and orientations around this time.

Walking through the new school building and getting to know the learning environment that awaits you will gradually help to settle your mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness.

Visa renewal preparations are necessary.

During spring break, you’ll need to prepare for your visa renewal. Specifically, first, you’ll receive the necessary documents from your part-time job or Japanese language school. Next, you’ll prepare the “Application for Extension of Period of Stay” to submit to the Immigration Bureau, and gather the required supporting documents, such as copies of your passport and residence card. Since errors in the application can delay the process, it’s best to have the school staff check it. Also, a passport-sized photograph (4cm x 3cm) taken within the last three months is required for visa renewal, so be sure to prepare a new one, not an old one.

Relax and Prepare Your Mind

Amidst the hectic preparations, time to refresh your mind and body is essential.

Many students take short trips or immerse themselves in hobbies to recharge their energy for the next chapter of their lives.

The Starting Line to a New Challenge

These two weeks are a crucial preparatory period for students as they step into the future.

Even amidst a mix of excitement and anxiety, carefully preparing step by step will enrich your new life.

NILS is a place that supports the future of such students.
