On Friday, August 29, NILS held a Japanese speech contest where 17 outstanding students, each representing their respective classes, competed against one another.
Each of the 17 participants had their own unique personality and charm. Although they had only been in Japan for a short time, they worked hard and practiced diligently to sound as native speaker.
Now, I would like to introduce a very impressive speech titled My Unforgettable Memory, delivered by Mr. Nirajan from Nepal.

🎤「私の忘れられない思い出」“My Unforgettable Memory”
今までの忘れられない思い出は悲しいことです。私が高校で勉強していたときのことです。
One of my most unforgettable memories is a sad one. It happened when I was in high school.
私は中学校が終わって、高校のためにうちから遠い学校で勉強していました。うちは遠いですから、私は学校の寮に住みながら勉強していました。私はそのときとても親切な人に会いました。その人も私と一緒に同じ部屋に住んでいました。その人はとても優しくて面白い人でした。何か分からないとき、教えてくれました。勉強もとても上手でした。ときどき私はその人をうちへ連れて行きました。うちでゲームをしたり、川で泳いだりしたことがあります。私たちは親友になりました。
After finishing junior high, I enrolled in a high school far from my home. Because of the distance, I lived in the school dormitory. During that time, I met a very kind person who stayed in the same room with me. He was cheerful, caring, and very good at studying. Whenever I didn’t understand something, he patiently taught me. We became close friends. Sometimes I invited him to my home, and we played games or went swimming in the river together. Before long, he became my best friend.
2022年4月23日、私と友達がバイクで友達のうちへ行っているとき、事故にあってしまいました。私は怪我があまりありませんでした。でも私の友達は重症でした。そこから私たちは病院へ連れていかれました。そこにいた人が連れて行ってくれました。友達は重症だったのでICUに入院しました。その次の日に病院で私の友達は亡くなりました。私はそのときの気持ちを言葉にすることができません。とても寂しくなりました。それで私は学校へ行かないで1か月休みをとってうちで休みました。
On April 23, 2022, something terrible happened. While we were riding a motorbike to his house, we got into an accident. I only suffered minor injuries, but my friend was badly hurt. A passerby rushed us to the hospital. Because his condition was serious, he was admitted to the ICU. The next day, my friend passed away. I cannot put into words how I felt at that moment. I was overwhelmed with grief and took a month off from school to stay at home.
ときどき私は寝る前にそのことを思い出します。ですが、事故のときのことだけじゃなくて、一緒に遊んだこと、ゲームをしたこと、学校の寮で一緒に住んだときのこともよく思い出します。その友達と一緒にしたことは、心にずっと残っています。
Even now, I often recall not only the accident but also the happy times we shared—playing games, swimming, and living together in the dormitory. Those memories are deeply engraved in my heart.
今私は日本にいて、新しい友達もできました。前よりあまり寂しくないです。しかしその友達のような友達は他にいません。彼は今でも大切な友達の1人です。
Now I am in Japan, and I have made new friends. I don’t feel as lonely as before. However, no one can ever replace that friend. He will always remain one of my dearest and most precious friends.
