Kawachi Fuji Garden: A Breathtaking Spring Destination

Located in Yahatahigashi Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Kawachi Fuji Garden is renowned for its enchanting wisteria flowers. From late April to mid-May, the garden is in full bloom, showcasing 22 varieties of wisteria in a stunning array of colors.

Spectacular Wisteria Tunnels and Grand Pergola

The garden’s main attractions are its two wisteria tunnels, measuring 80 and 110 meters in length. These tunnels are draped with vibrant purple, white, and pink blossoms, creating a mesmerizing floral canopy. Additionally, the approximately 1,000-tsubo (3,300 square meters) grand pergola is a sight to behold, with wisteria vines cascading down like a natural chandelier.

A Symphony of Scents

As visitors stroll through the garden, they are enveloped by the sweet and delicate fragrance of wisteria. The air is filled with the soothing aroma, enhancing the sensory experience and providing a serene atmosphere.

Recognized by International Media

Kawachi Fuji Garden gained international recognition when it was featured in CNN’s 2015 article “31 Most Beautiful Places in Japan.” The garden was praised for its “oil painting-like beauty,” attracting visitors from around the world.

Access from Hakata

To reach the garden from Tenjin, take the JR Kagoshima Main Line from Hakata Station to Yahata Station. From there, a free shuttle bus operates to the garden. For those driving, take the Kyushu Expressway and exit at either the “Otani IC” or “Yamaji IC” on the Kitakyushu Urban Expressway, approximately 15 minutes to the garden. Free parking is available on-site.

  • Admission: ¥1,000–¥1,500 (varies with bloom status)

  • Note: During the peak wisteria season (late April to mid-May), advance reservation with a timed-entry ticket is required to enter the garden. Tickets must be purchased online or at convenience store kiosks (e.g., Lawson). There are no same-day or on-site ticket sales available.
