Red and White Singing Contest

Hello, everyone.
We are already in 2022, but let me talk a little about an annual New Year’s Eve event called “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”

The program selects the most popular artists of the year into competing teams of red and white. Male singers belong to the “white” team whereas the “red” team is all female. At the end of the show. Judges and the audience vote to decide who group performed better.

You will definitely get the feel of Japan’s New Year’s Eve.

Let me introduce some of last year’s singers.

[Red Team]
Sakurazaka 46 – singing “Nagaredama”
Popular for their intense dancing and vivid costumes. Dancing to this song might make you really fit.

Yoasobi – “Gunjo”
Accompanied with wind ensemble and a choral group like voice. This song encourages you when you are feeling blue.

Aimyon – “Aiwoshirumadeha”
The theme song of a popular drama, Kontogahazimaru, this is such a heartwarming song.

[White Team]
Hiromi Go – “240 million Eyes Exotic Japan”
Go is 67 years old, but hardly looks the age. He has been a contestant in the show more than 30 times.

Yuzu – “Niji”
The background music of the violin is beautiful. This song gives you hope when feeling sad.

Bump of Chicken – “Nanairo”
The singer’s unique voice with fast rhythm encourages you to move forward. This is a title song of a drama called “Okaeri Mone.”

In addition to songs, Kohaku Uta Gassen is filled with fun productions. I hope you have a chance to watch it.
